Choose your advisors carefully.
Select people who really
listen to who
you are
and understand what you value.
Don't accept
anything less.

I grew up thinking that my father
was the smartest man in Chisholm, Minnesota. A shoe repairman, he quit school early to help support his
seven brothers and sisters. Although he never finished high school, it
seemed like everyone in town stopped by his shop for help and advice.
He could talk intelligently on almost any subject.
My father taught us about integrity and hard work. He valued family.
He taught us that everyone is
the same. No person is better than another. Some people may be more educated
or have more money, but no one has more value.
My dad stressed that education was the one thing that no one could take
from you. He told us that
his proudest accomplishment was to have his three children graduate from
college. I went on to own
a business, which taught me to value what I earn, and became a volunteer
crisis counselor, which taught me to value what I have.
My father set the bar high. When I do something, I do it with my whole
heart and mind.
My father wouldn't accept anything less.
